July 18 – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling [young adult/fantasy]. Potter, the main character, is a wizard but doesn't know it. Shielded by his aunt and uncle, he lives underneath the staircase in their house. one day, his life is forever changed.
Aug. 15 – Gilead by Marilynne Robinson [epistolary]. Set in 1956, the novel is composed of the memoirs of Reverend John Ames, a Congregationalist minister in the fictional town of Gilead, Iowa, as he tries to set down the story of his life for his young son before Reverend Ames dies.
Sept. 19 - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen [classic]. A humorous story of love and life among English gentility during the Georgian era. Mr Bennet is an English gentleman living in Hartfordshire with his overbearing wife.
Oct. 17 - Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston [historical fiction]. A drama set in the 1920s, where free-spirited Janie Crawford's search for happiness leads her through several different marriages, challenging the morals of her small town.
Nov. 21 - Ghost by Jason Reynolds [young adult]. Ghost wants to be the fastest sprinter on his elite middle school track team, but his past is slowing him down in this first electrifying novel of a brand-new series
Dec. 19 - Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden [historical fiction]. Told in first person perspective, it tells the story of a fictional geisha working in Kyoto, Japan, before and after World War II.
